Power, structure and colour are undoubtedly the signatures of the 2019 vintage. Deep purple colour with violet hints. Very expressive on the nose: the attack is round, dominated by Syrah (Floral notes of violet and spices) but thanks to tannins of excellent maturity, Grenache shows a dense, robust but supple structure. Very good length on the palate, full ripeness and a fine tannic extraction gives this balanced wine a significant ageing potential, a sure bet for the coming years.
This deep red Châteauneuf du Pape is very aromatic. At the very beginning, nose is very red fruit driven and then, after a couple of minutes it becomes more spicy (sweet asian spices and pot pourri). The mouth is full of energy, very juicy. Lots of garrigue characters, herbal notes but still very fleshy. The palate is soft and tannins dense bringing an intense sappy finish.
Pale yellow colour with hints of green. On the nose elegant whiteflower notes (acacia, elderberry) with almond and fresh pear aromas. Freshness and precision in the mouth, full-bodied, rounded and balanced with texture and length. Light oaky finish but still remaining subtle and fine! Elegance, finesse and modernity for this 2020 Château La Nerthe blanc!
Pale and bright colour with green hints. Very aromatic nose on white orchard fruits (pear and peach) and lime notes. The mouth is fruity, showing a fine balance between richness and freshness, remains generous, round, without being heavy or alcoholic. It's a well-balanced wine, fine and elegant.
This delicacy is preserved thanks to an extraction work more akin to "infusion". Plot-based vinification makes it possible to obtain the unique expression of certain terroirs. The grapes, harvested by hand, are sorted on the table. Destemmed, they are sent to the vinification vats. Depending on the terroirs and the taste quality of the grapes, the vinification takes place in stainless steel or wooden vats. Vatting begins with a 12/24 hour cold pre-fermentation maceration phase. Then the alcoholic fermentation starts. The yeasts that provide it are indigenous yeasts specific to our region. The fermentation temperature is controlled throughout the fermentation. Pumping over and punching down are carried out during fermentation in order to ensure the best extraction of compounds from the grape. The vatting lasts about 3 weeks then the wines are sold, in demi-muids, barrels, tuns and in stone vats for malolactic fermentation. Once this second fermentation is complete, aging begins for a period of 12 months. It is only at the end of this aging that the assembly will be carried out.
Since the 2001 vintage, the wines of Château La Nerthe have been bottled in a bottle created with its identity in order to mark its atypicality.
The Château La Nerthe vineyard is a mosaic of 57 plots on which we find the 4 main families of Châteauneuf du Pape soils and the 13 grape varieties of the appellation. The estate has been cultivated in organic farming (ECOCERT certification) since 1998. The vines cover 92 hectares, 60 of which are around the Château and 32 a few hundred meters further east on the famous Crau plateau.
All of these plots cover the entire diversity of the appellation's soils, making the style of La Nerthe the full expression of the complexity of Châteauneuf du Pape.
Enjoying an exceptional location, the estate is made up of terraces and hillsides typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils. Around the Château, we find a majority of sands, marls and clayey lime rich in famous pebbles with some very chalky areas more suitable for white wines. The 32 hectares in the La Crau sector are based on clay soil, covered with rolled pebbles with a few touches of sandstone. The nature of each plot and the age of the vines are taken into account in the cultivation process.
