Since its first vintage in 2001 Longview Vineyard has become one of the Adelaide Hills’ most awarded wine producers. Set on undulating slopes reminiscent of classic old world estates, this family owned single vineyard has a unique micro-climate suited to growing cool climate white and red varietals equally well.
The most awarded rosé in the country, Longview set out to make a dry, European-style wine back in 2005. Nebbiolo was the perfect grape to do so. A beguiling rose-water hue with glints of copper immediately draw one in. Out of the glass lifts a remarkable perfume of fresh red berries, pressed flowers, nectarine skin and the trademark Nebbiolo whiff of star-anise. In the mouth it’s a refreshing hit of white stone fruit flesh culminating in a zippy citrus-juice finish that cleanses the palate and sets it up for another sip.
Inspired by young, unwooded, and freshItalian table wines, we have created a multi-varietal blend that is ideal to drink right away. An inviting deep scarlet hue in the glass, the aromas remarkably show case all 4 varieties, all wafting up for your attention. These fruit notes then morph into more serious tones of clove, anise,
and wet earth. Fresh picked cherry juice cascades over the palate, underpinned with the vineyard’s hallmark ironstone minerality and a bracing, fresh acidity that lingers long. Vino Novello
One of our favourite wines to drink, Barbera at its best can be fun and
moreish, yet complex with deep flavour and structure. Brick red in colour, the nose shows a heady melange of raspberry and crushed lavender, dovetailing into more complex bass notes of Lapsang Souchong tea and black olive. The palate is thrilling upon entry with red bursts of pomegranate and cranberry fruit and harnessed by chalky tannin and succulent acidity, making for a superbly structured wine which lingers on the palate gracefully.
The “king of grapes” in Italy has long been a passion at Longview. Never resting on our laurels, we only bottle in vintages we believe are the truest expression of Nebbiolo outside the Piemonte. Light cherry-red in colour with a brilliant clear rim, the wine is unmistakably Nebbiolo. Cherries carry through on the nose but more on the steeped, Maraschino spectrum, along with musk and potpourri. Star-anise, all-spice and slightly smoky dried herbs provide a seriousness to the high toned red fruit and florals. The palate is extraordinarily complex, yet bright and thrilling with a thrust of taut berry flavours, glittery tannins, cherry flesh and blood-orange juice acidity. Its length is immeasurable.
The 2020 Riesling shows jasmine flower aromas with subtle nuances of talc and grapefruit pith. The ironstone soil provides a flinty, mineral character with a fine powdery palate of lemon and lime. The wine finishes with thrilling natural acidity balancing beautifully with the fruit, giving the wine a long-textured finish.
Grown on a sheer south-facing slope, our Grüner takes its time to ripen, showing quite reserved fruit flavour until seemingly hours before harvest. In the glass, the wine has a brilliant clarity and aromatics of grapefruit citrus, white pepper, leafy herbs and a hint of juniper burst out of the glass. The palate is dry and spicy with a textural, lingering finish of fresh root vegetables, green pear and underpinned with a gentle, refreshing acidity.
A pure expression of our vineyard’s fruit quality and personality. Characteristics of citrus blossom, ginger, white peach and line of briny minerality are the hallmarks of our cool climate Adelaide Hills chardonnay. Perfectly integrated French oak used during fermentation adds depth and complexity. The palate is elegant; stone fruit, subtle lemon-verbena upon entry,
It has a powerful finish, yet clean with restrained acidity.
There is a floral element to most wine from Longview Vineyard, but the perfume of this Syrah’s aromatics is almost over whelming. Jonquils, jasmine and carnation florals waft from the glass with secondary notes of blue fruits, white pepper spice and aniseed drifting up to declare this a true, cool-climate Syrah.
The palate is layered, languid, long and yet finishes with a crunch of taut berry fruit interlaced with natural acidity and focus.
Brilliant garnet in colour, the aromatics are shy to begin with but coax you in with lilting iris’, mulberries and black fruits with a chalky, gravelly undertone. The palate is a sublime melange of raspberries, concentrated cassis and subtle mint.
The tannin structure is profound and it
is clear that this is a wine that, although thoroughly alluring now, will unfurl its true personality in 10 years or more.
Longview’s Shiraz Barbera takes the best of Australia and Italy and blends them together to create a harmonious, modern food wine. The Shiraz has all the hallmarks of cool-climate fruit — white pepper and baking spices with slight undertones of vanilla and cocoa – and the Barbera adds pop with fresh blackberry lift.
The palate is juicy to start with a burst of red-cherry brightness courtesy of the Barbera, then gives way to a Shiraz savouriness and taut acid backbone that gives the wine wonderful structure. It is afresh, lean wine right now but as we see with this unique blend, develops into a generous crowd pleaser.
True to our homeland (and an homage to our family’s matriarch, Queenie Saturno),this Pinot Grigio shows all the hallmarks
of a traditional Northern Italian style. The nose is overflowing with nashi pear, slight ginger spice and white blossom notes. The palate is crisp, dry and vibrant with delicate green apple fruit, bright acidity and a moreish, crunchy finish.
An Adelaide Hills classic; ‘Whippet’ Sauvignon Blanc displays aromas of passion fruit, guava, mangosteen, leafy fresh cut grass and herbs, honey suckle, and lemon. The palate is whip smart and racy – like the hound after which it is named - and displays refreshing, green bean and nettle characters and finishes with incredible mouth-watering acidity.
The LV Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced entirely from Longview’s vineyard at Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills. The Shiraz component is sourced from block SH13, SH2 and SH and the Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from block CS1. The fruit was harvested in cool conditions, crushed and fermented for 14 days on skins, then gently pressed and matured for 12 months in new French and old American oak hogsheads.
The 2021 Yakka Shiraz speaks truly of Longview Vineyard. It has an attractive violet hue, with lifted aromas of white pepper, dark cherry, nutmeg, cranberry, plum skin, and wet earth. The palate is bright, energetic, refreshing but cascading with silky fruit and exceptionally smooth tannins. With a typically savory structure, this wine delivers great finesse and elegance.
The Devil’s Elbow is a legendary hair pin corner on the old road to the Adelaide Hills. Longview’s Cabernet also goes on a journey – a beguiling, dense plum colour; heady purple florals, black fruits and leafy roasting herbs on the nose give way to a plush, generous palate that finishes dusty and dry with grainy persistent tannin.
An elegant and complex wine which displays aromas of baking spices, maraschino cherry, anise and coffee coupled with restrained pencil shavings of French oak. The structured palate displays flavours of cherry, red currant, mulberries and fresh acidity. Dusty tannins complement the finish which is dry and clean with tremendous length. Cellar for 15 years or more, with careful decanting when opening.
Lifted and varietal this Pinot Noir shows all the hallmarks of high quality AdelaideHills Pinot Noir. Soft and delicate violet red colour. Intense mineral aromas, with notes of graphite, pumice, red fruit and raspberry. A wine of a light and fluid body, with firm tannins and good acidity
Family owned and operated together with a small but specialised team of passionate vineyard, events, administration and food and beverage professionals.
Passionate about their heritage, the Saturno family has infused Longview with an Italian accent. Tipping their hat to the family’s matriarch, Tarquinia “Queenie” Saturno, they produce meticulous examples of traditional Northern Italian wines and focus their food around all regions of their spiritual homeland.
Embracing the rituals of making tomato pasta sauce, curing meats and pickling vegetables, the Saturno’s are passionate about sharing their history with their customers.
Originally a dairy for most of the 20th century, Longview produces an exciting portfolio of wines – all of them single-vineyard estate-grown. Key to this award-winning range is the valley landscape, with red varietals grown on the northern slopes where they ripen consistently, and white varietals grown on the southern side where the cooler aspect allows the grapes to maintain their acidity.
Longview is located on the South Eastern Ridge of the Mt Lofty Ranges and at our highest point (410m above sea level), a “long view” stretches out toward the Southern Ocean and Lake Alexandrina. This southern location accounts for a slightly higher than average temperature than the rest of the Adelaide Hills, while the altitude confirms it as a true cool-climate site. During the summer, warm days are followed by cool winds shifting from the southern waters off Lake Alexandrina and the coast. Consequently, these conditions result in a very high diurnal range which is quite site-specific and provides a remarkable breadth of flavour profiles in the grape berry.
