In some ways you could say Michael & Fiona Ragg are trying to de-mystify the world of Burgundy and at the same time trying to make beautiful Pinot & Chardonnay from this lofty region at the right price. Procuring fruit from across the Côte-d’Or their wines range from Bourgogne level to Grand Cru, showcasing the varying soils and terroir to be found. M&M is a modern take on burgundy but is based in the traditional village of Aloxe Corton and it is this juxtaposition combined with an intimate knowledge of the people, heritage and the terroir of Burgundy that sets them apart.
Bright, extremely pale straw in colour, tinged with green and fading to a water white rim. Intense lemon zest nose of great purity and concentration, with lime, white pepper and lanoline elements, along with saline notes, oyster water and quartz. On the palate the wine is super-clean, medium-weight and nicely balanced with outstanding, bright, lively acidity. Pretty youthful, with fresh zesty citric notes, ginger, lime and some salinity. The finish is long and full, yet beautifully lean. A delicious wine to drink by itself or an ideal accompaniment to soleMeunière, lobster tail, skate in black butter or sushi.
Bright ruby red in colour fading to a pale pink rim. Ripe, intense, pure and complex on the nose. Terrific fruit, with lots of blackcurrant, loganberry, redcurrant and damson notes, along with hints of gingerbread, all-spice, liquorice and dark chocolate. On the palate the wine is rich, round and firm with a good, yet finely grained, tannic structure around which the rest of the wine wraps itself. There is a silky element to the texture, and this is augmented by multiple fruit notes, predominantly blackberry and black cherry, along with traces of black pepper, mocha and smoke. The finish is layered, long and smooth. A delicious wine to drink by itself or an ideal accompaniment to roast pheasant, pan-seared calves liver, spiced duck breast or chicken liver.
