Poggio al Tufo is a symbol of our pioneer spirit and our first foray outside of the family's historic vineyards.
A deep, bright ruby red in colour, on the nose it offers an elegant, varied bouquet of ripe berry fruits (such as blackberries and raspberries), dried aromatic herbs and delicate sweet spices. On the palate it is full-bodied, mellow and mouth-filling, with velvety tannins. Though richly flavoured, it displays an attractive suppleness in the mouth.
Today the winemaking takes place at a small facility at Tenute Albore until the Poggio al Tufo winery is complete.
Excavation has begun for the new facility that will house cutting-edge, environmentally friendly and eco-sustainable technologies. It will be primarily underground and built on different levels to adapt to the slopes of the land, thus fitting perfectly into the environmental framework of the Maremma countryside.
In the Rompicollo vineyards, we began the first detailed pedoclimatic research which would set the standard for the rest of our vineyards around Italy. We zoned and replanted vineyards with more suitable clones of native and international varieties included in the production rules for Maremma IGT wines.
Our award-winning Rompicollo is a Sangiovese - Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The position of these prime vineyards allows for later harvesting and full-ripening The remaining hectares are planted with the autochthonous Vermentino and Alicante.
